Thrifty Bridesmaid Dresses

IMG_0524

Thrifty and stylish brides need to think beyond “traditional” when they are planning their weddings. When choosing bridesmaids dresses think about getting ones that coordinate but do not necessarily match. These 2 dresses have the same color scheme and would look super cute in pictures together. The best part, not only are they cute and stylish, they are thrifty and found at a local bridal consignment boutique. That same boutique also carries matching sets of bridesmaid dresses if that is the look you are going for. Bring your bridesmaids out for a day of shopping so you can make sure that each dress is a good fit each girl in your bridal party.

Bridal Style: Your Bridal Look For Less

Yes it is possible to get a beautiful bridal look without breaking the budget.  That is why I decided to open my bridal consignment shop.  I have shopped in consignment stores for years.  Admittedly some are better than others when it comes to the selection and condition the clothes.  In the right store you can even get brand new with tags pieces.

I absolutely love it when brides find their dream dress.  I had a bride just recently who came in and was “just looking”.  As soon as I put on the veil she knew.  She cried, her friend cried and I got chills.  It was awesome.

But I Want That Bridal Gown!

Bridal gown shopping is one of the most emotional shopping trips you will ever take.  Trying on a  gown is unlike any other type of clothing you will wear.  Because of that, it is hard to tell what you will actually look like until you put one on.  One of the biggest problems that brides have, is that they see a wedding gown in a picture and immediately fall in love with it.  Let’s face it if you see it in a magazine of course the model is going to make the gown look as good as possible.  I would look great in some of those gowns too if I was that size and shape. 🙂

Then, when they actually go shopping they only have that one style in mind, and some refuse to even consider anything else.

One of the biggest pieces of advice I give brides shopping for a gown, is to try on different styles.  Even if you don’t really like it on the hanger.  Gown really look different on a person than they do on the hanger.  And sometimes unfortunately the gown you think you love, doesn’t even look good on you.  I have seen it happen many times.  A bride tries on a gown she was not even sure she would like, until she puts it on……

My Brush With Celebrity

To tell this story I first need to give a little background.  For years as we drive back from Olean on route 16, there is a sign that reads 1999 Miss USA from Franklinville, NY.  My husband and I have had discussions about it over the years that she used to live up the street from him. So he actually kind of knew and her family.

Fast forward to a Tuesday here at the shop when a woman walked in.  You know the type, beautiful skin, flawless hair, a person you want to hate because they are so perfect, but, you are too busy being jealous of her.  We talked for a few minutes, and she said she was meeting some people there.  In comes the bride, her mom and a bridesmaid.  They were pulling and trying on dresses while I was taking in consignment and measuring for a tuxedo.  Of course everything happens at once.  The bride found a dress she loved and the dress shopping seemed done.  As they were leaving,  the beautiful one saw a purple leopard print dress I had hanging on the rack and said she really liked it.  She is going to judge some pageants later this year and decided to try it on.  This is when the story really gets good….

The mother of the bride says to me, you should ask if you can take her picture because then you could say you had a former Miss USA in your shop…..then when she said her name all the pieces started to come together.   Her name was Kimberly Pressler and she was the actual person whose name I have seen on the sign so many times.

Surprise, surprise the dress looked beautiful on her.  So that was my brush with celebrity here in my exclusive consignment bridal shop.  Maybe the pageant, she and the dress will be on tv…….hmm…..stay tuned.
